Spin Off to Merge Success
At the time Bill Uglow was Vice President and General Manager of Tomy Corporation, a toy company. Mr. Uglow was asked by senior management to spin off the gift division – The Heirloom Tradition.
After the usual research for the best partner, due diligence, and negotiation, Mr. Uglow was successful in merging the two companies under the umbrella of Hamilton Collection.
Merger of the Elvis Presley Brand
with Grain and Barrel LLC.
Mr. Uglow was asked by Elvis Presley Enterprises to create a new business fusing Elvis Presley with a distillery company that had a good liquor distribution business. Bill went into research mode using his 100,000 contacts list. He approached over 125 distilleries in the US. He found one he thought was perfect, located in South Carolina. They understood Southern culture and the Elvis Presley brand. “Google” Grain & Barrel – Elvis Whiskey. It’s a business expected to reach $100 million in sales in five years.
Resort Giants
Mr. Uglow was Corporate Vice President of Retail at Mandalay Resort Group. He was part of the senior management team that together successfully merged MGM Grand with Mandalay Resort Group. Combining MRG’s hotel casinos including Mandalay Bay, Luxor. Excalibur, Circus Circus plus 8 others with MGM’s hotel casinos including Mirage, Bellagio, and MGM Grand resulted in a mammoth hotel casino chain.
Merger of the Retail Divisions of Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
Barton K Boyd, who went on to become Chairman of Disney Consumer Products, asked his number two at the time, Bill Uglow, Director of Disney Merchandise to merge the retail divisions of Disneyland and Walt Disney World together. Bill relocated from Orlando to Burbank to establish a single entity for retail merchandise. Barton, or Bo as he was called, also asked Bill to open the first Disneyana retail store on the west coast. The Disneyana store was to become the forerunner of the Disney Stores located primarily in malls around the world.
